Maria Shell - Linear Blocks: Line into Shape Workshop
Students will be exposed to an assortment of traditional quilt blocks built with line and ways to individualize these blocks through cutting, color placement, repetition of block, and bit making. Students will also be given information about working with solid colored fabrics, piecing techniques, and ideas for taking their quilt blocks and creating original quilts.
David Owen Hastings - Inspired by Architecture Workshop
In this workshop, David will guide you through a creative process for designing your own modern abstract quilts, taking inspiration from architectural photos to develop dynamic and unique quilt designs.
Conversation with Mary Margaret Pettway, Gees Bend Quilter
Mary Margaret Pettway is a Gees Bend Quilter. From Black Belt Treasures Cultural Arts Center:
“Like so many young women growing up in Gees Bend, Alabama, Mary’s inspiration and knowledge of quilting came from her Mother, Lucy Pettway. She says that making quilts, clothes, aprons and bags was a necessity as well as a way of life because you were “using what you have to make what you need”. She has spent the past 39 years using this motto as her guide.”
Join us for a talk with Mary Margaret on May 21, 10:30-11:30 am PST.
Tara Faughnan - Give and Take Workshop: Improvisational
The Give and Take Workshop will help you stretch your improvisational muscles a bit. lmprov can be intimidating and scary for some sewers. This method of practicing improv within the block, then squaring it up for final construction, will get you more comfortable with free form construction until you're ready to take off on your own.
April Sew Day
Please note:
If you are attending the in-person sew day please park on the south side of the building, there is an entrance there. The room we'll be sewing in is upstairs to the right, and there is an elevator available as well.
Per Washington State guidance, masks are optional at this time. Please stay home if you are feeling unwell, and join us on Zoom!
If you bring food, please eat in the designated area.
The guild will be providing an ironing board and iron. Please bring everything else you'll need, including cutting mat/rotary cutter, and an extension cord.
We will have a screen with the Zoom meeting on it so that people at the in person event can hear the news update and people on Zoom can see any in person demonstrations.
**Due to COVID-19, all sew day meetings will also be held on Zoom. If you would like to attend, please contact the guild at info@inmodquiltguild.com for the Zoom link**
